Personality Types

If you are familiar with the personality psychology then you have probably heard of the different personality tests that are out there. The two that are quite well known are the Big Five and the Myer Briggs tests.

The Myer Briggs test is designed to give you a better understanding of how you are processing data on the inside of your mind. This can tell us a lot about a person and explains for example even how humor works.

The Big Five test is more geared towards behavior rather than internal workings of the mind. So Big Five is useful when you want to explain what people do, while Myer Brigs focuses more on how people think.

By thoroughly understanding how peoples personalities work, we can explain why different people respond to different types of humor.

I personally am geared more towards the intuitive side rather than sensory side and so I respond better to intellectual humor rather than to the more literate humor that we find in shows like Comedy Central.

If you are geared towards the sensory side then you will not quite get the intuitive humor because it relies so much on leaps between meanings. While, if you are very intuitive then you will find sensory humor quite dull and just not funny.

Knowing this helps you be less frustrated when you either feel stupid that you didn't get a joke or if you feel completely unchallenged because you thought that the joke was so obvious that it wasn't even funny..

If you want to find out what your type is, then take this test: MBTI Type Indicator
